Remember, some techniques that seem simple, such as stitching-in-the-ditch, diagonal straight stitching, and echoing, are really very difficult and are considered custom quilting and are priced accordingly. The following price ranges are figured by the square inch. To get a rough estimate, multiply the length of your quilt top by the width, then multiply that number by the price of the quilting you have in mind. BASTING ONLY: Just for quilts that will be basted only in preparation for hand quilting - $0.005 (1/2 cent) per sq. inch - minimum charge $30 ALL-OVER QUILTING: one design pantograph, large meandering, free form quilting going from edge to edge - $0.015 to $0.03 (1 ½ cents to 3 cents) per sq. inch - minimum charge $40 CUSTOM QUILTING: stitch-in-the ditch, drop-in designs, diagonals, echo quilting, fancy or small meander, stippling, fancy pantograph, individual border work - $0.03 to $0.07 (3 cents to 7 cents) per sq. inch - minimum charge $50 TURNING QUILT FOR BORDERS: $20 per turn for directional border designs
